HAPPY CANADIAN THANKSGIVING - HEALTHY RECIPES
Ah,Thanksgiving - the beginning of the holiday season and eating - easily one of the best parts. With the family get-togethers and the piles of pumpkin pies, sticky tarts, turkey dinners, and mashed potatoes, it's easy to eat thousands of mindless calories and wind up feeling a little sluggish and heavy after it's all over. But, we're here to share some of our favorite healthy takes on the classic Thanksgiving favorites.
So, go ahead - indulge in your favorites without the guilt.
1. MASHED POTATOES
Definitely a family favorite - we load ours up with corn and peas. This recipe eliminates the potatoes completely (what?!) but after tons of speculation and review - cauliflower mashed 'potatoes' taste just as good! Try it out for yourself...
2. PUMPKIN PIE
There is no denying that Fall is all things pumpkin. A personal favorite every Thanksgiving, I had to find a healthier alternative. This recipe is crustless and the total calories in a normal slice of pie is equivalent to an ENTIRE pie in this recipe. No need to eat the whole pie, but I'm just saying.
3. CRANBERRY SAUCE
What's a turkey dinner without the cranberry sauce? A Thanksgiving essential, this recipe cuts out all the excess sugars and any other preservatives found in store bought sauce.
4. THE CASSEROLE
This recipe makes me hungry. The casserole is already a dinner favorite, but
even more popular for family get-togethers. This sweet potato casserole is
sweet and light.
5. SALAD SIDE DISH
There's the ambrosia salad that is stock full of sugar and other bad goodies,
but a healthier alternative is this apple, cranberry, walnut salad for sweet crunch.
You'll love this healthier option that gives salads a better name.
Thanksgiving can't come any quicker! Thank you to all of our readers and sandalserenade girls - we're grateful for all of you.
So celebrate what you're thankful for this year with your family and indulge!
